Life of a Writer of Weird: Dumbing Down

Reasons why I should have my IQ reassessed, evidence for the prosecution:

Watching this week's 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire', which I try not to do unless incredibly bored, a sports question appeared. 'Oh, how I hate sports,' was my initial response. A family member shouted out 'swimming' before the multiple choices appeared. Swimming wasn't there, so I said, 'must be pool then'. Seriously. It took about a millisecond to realise my faux pas and scream, 'I meant diving', but the damage was done.

Plot, losing it.

This news concerns me greatly. "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" is still on TV? Something must be done.

I agree.

Yea, it's been on daytime for a very long time. It was fun the first few seasons in primetime... but now? Aren't they running out of questions?

Funny answer Cate. :)

Every now and then, I'll stop on the show. I'll watch, but I usually scream things at the television--scream them or think them, bitter things like: no one cares if you're a retired science teacher. no one cares that you're a homemaker from Ohio. No one wants to hear an anecdotal story about your last vacation or about the time in college when you . . .

Just put up the damn question!

I feel much the same whenever I choose to watch "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" I feel shamed to say those 5th graders are sometimes smarter than I.

Sarah, it's still on at primetime in the UK. :(

Bobbie, sounds like our house - except replace Ohio with Bournemouth.

Lol! Andrea. Kids are always smarter than us.

We don't get that in the UK.

I can't even laugh, because it's something I'd say :/

Maybe billards...wait...oh. I'm a dullard, I suppose.

Ha, Katey. I think it has something to do with being away with the fairies (in my case anyhow).

You can't swim in a billiard, Aaron. And they let you teach. ;D
