Walking along Scarborough's waterfront, thinking of the time travel story I'm working on (A World of Cardboard Houses - one draft down, several more to go), and Doctor Who's tardis lands in front of me. Well, it is a little in disguise, but I wasn't fooled. I looked in the window and saw the dude in there fiddling with his controls. Well, I hope it was the Doctor...
I suspect the town went on high alert the moment I stepped off the train, although I'm pleased to say that mostly it was a beautiful, brilliant, me-turning-lobster-pink day. I say mostly because the train crawled part-way home due to signal failure or something (I think it was the tardis taking off) and I did feel a need to step up to the driver's cabin and announce to the other passengers, "I apologise for any inconvenience, if I wasn't on board, you'd probably get home much quicker."
Here are some pretty pictures of my day out (note: me not on them).
Luna Park: I thought it kind of the people of Scarborough to
name an amusement park after a character
in my short WIP, 'Breath Echoes Deep'.
A hint of Scarborough Castle from far-far-below.
The reason I don't write traditional fantasy is because
I haven't the walking boots to climb up there
and climb the parapets.
King Richard III is reputed to have stayed here.
I believe he had smelly feet so we didn't
go inside.
The pirates came to shore to welcome me.
Thank 'ye pirates, but can I have
my rum back.
Bye-bye Beach.

Nice selection of photos from your holiday in Scarbouough (the place where so many British couples met each other). I hope you didn't stare at the fiddling Doctor...
Cool pictures. Sounds like you had a pretty great day. i need to take a trip soon.
Only for a short time, Alan.
I need another trip now, Anthony. :D Never satisfied.
This makes me want to take a bunch of pictures : ) Of what, I have no idea.
And the oldest buildings we have around here are only about 170 years old. :( Looks like that would be a fun day out.
Natalie, I'm sure you'll think of something.
Jamie, it's a beautiful place. Liverpool has a couple of Tudor buildings and I think the Town Hall dates from the 1700s, but we don't have anything as old as Scarborough.
Looks like a lovely spot. Though, if the Doctor's there, it probably won't be lovely for long...
Awesome place! I think you'll have to fight Captain Jack Sparrow for the rum. I think he has a problem.
I love the pictures! It looks like a wonderful place! No wonder Doctor Who dropped by for the day.
Josh, I think he was there only to ensure I didn't wreck the place.
Andrea, I'd fight Captain Sparrow any day. Ahem!
Kate, it is very pretty.
Ah...a real castle. Sigh.
We went to a "castle" last week at a state park...the stone walls of a house built in 1922.
Not a castle, folks. Not on this blooming continent. Of course, I did convince the boys the root cellar was a dungeon. We even found bones. Heh.
Ah, but you have Harry Potter land on your continent - that I'd kill to see.
What a lovely holiday. Must visit there myself, one day.
Not been to Scarborough in 14 years. Would love to go again. Sigh... Did chaos reign while you were there?
You should, Rebecca. It's so pretty.
Simon, unfortunately not. Quite disappointing really. ;)
Careful, Cate! You might be turning... >>>shudder<<< normal. And we can't have that- what fun would that be? ;-)
Beautiful pictures! I turn bright lobster-pink very easily myself, but it never really stops me from going to the beach.
Will never happen, Simon.
Lobster-pink is part of the experience, Katey. :D
That looks great...oldest castle I've ever seen is the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, ca 1985.
