Tra La La La La or How I Spent my Saturday

My city has gone penguin mad. We took my niece and nephew into town yesterday to do the usual Grotto/Father Christmas stuff and followed a trail of penguins around the city centre. I think there are about a hundred in all. Feeling all Chrismassy now... Off to deck the halls, enjoy the remainder of the weekend.

Terrific! I love when communities do (insert animal here) on parade. We still have a few Jayhawks here and there from a similar even in Lawrence.

We had nothing like this until about a year ago when we had a herd of lambbananas (don't ask) descend on the city. I'd love to see them do it with Liver Birds (the city's emblem).

For some reason, Cate, I have this image of birds flying over the city with raw liver hanging from thier beaks.

Toronto did a similar thing with colourful moose scattered about the city. We should try that here with puffins (since we exterminated the Great Auk over 100years ago).

Colourful moose sound fantastic... Thankfully the word Liver in this case isn't as in the organ but rather, it rhymes with the word Driver.

Omaha did something similar about 10 years ago only with people. They gave 100 of these drone people to local artist to decorate as they would. It was pretty cool having them all over the city.

Jamie, that sounds fantastic.

Flowery penguin!! Wow, that's so cool. We had interestingly decorated bi-planes littered around the business dist. in my neighborhood in Arlington a year ago... why couldn't we have something this adorable?

Cate Gardner said...

I think bi-planes are pretty cool.

How cute! I love the one with the footprints up the rocks.

We had something like this about a decade ago in Knoxville, where a lot of local artists decorated black bear statues. They were all on display around the downtown area for a while, and then they were auctioned off to raise money for something or other. I wish they'd do it again.

You are all making me wish Liverpool had bought up all your statues and filled our streets with them.

In Boston we had cows. Frankly I prefer the penguins!

In Atlanta we had cows. Kindve weird and dull. They just made me hungry, frankly. Buy penguins are cool.

Cool. Interesting. We have so many birds here, there's no telling what I'll see on any given day. :-D
