Twittering

With twitter having lost the will to twit today, it reminded me of a quote by Vikki Peterson that Jeremy Brooks put up on his blog a couple of months back - The person who got the book deal instead of you got up an hour before you did this morning. Which didn't really work for me because a) I get up at 5:20 and b) even if they got up at 10:00 they probably still got the deal before me. I know I'm taking the quote literally there and completely ignoring its deeper meaning but where would be the fun in that. Anyhow, I figured a more appropriate quote, in my case, would be:

The person who got the book deal instead of you didn't twitter all day.

Amen. I may have to type that up and put it above my laptop.

Denied twitter access for several hours, I managed to lose myself in Horrifiques and with the start of chapter three, Sydney seems to have discovered her voice. Phew! For the first two chapters that girl's sense of humour was forced and dry and I thought I'd drifted back twenty years to when my stories were all bleeding hearts without the blood. Shudder. And there was me all worried a mere 24 hours ago. Pfft. Idiot. Just don't question me this time tomorrow.

And I'll leave you with a further inspirational quote(s) that probably isn't very inspirational at all - you have to live in my head.

Sister-in-law: "So why haven't you got a book deal like," holds book up, "this person has."

Me: "Because they wrote a better book that I did."

Sister-in-law: "Well, why don't you write a better book."

Me: "I'm trying." :)

Hooray for Sydney!

That's her first hooray, and she needed it as she's having trouble with a drama teacher.

You're on the path and will reach your destination - you're working at it and that's the only way.

I need to keep my Twitter/blog/forum/Internet play to a minimum. I'm not nearly as productive as I used to be! But I'm, uh, networking! That's it!

Yup, I think I would have to modify that quote from 'twitter' to simply 'the internet'!

Thank goodness I have been busy with other things today. I haven't missed twitter a bit. Okay, maybe just a little.

Catherine,

I had to force myself to stay off boards/twitter/blogs/YouTube etc. just to finish my current draft. We've all said it before and it's true--the same machine we use to create also carries all of these distractions. It's like working in a donut shop but trying to keep your weight down.

Wait, I can just write a better book? Why wasn't I informed??

I find it more reassuring to blame bad luck and the bad economy, myself. :) Twitter doesn't help, though.

Sister-in-law is a tough cookie.

Mercedes, I use the networking line all the time.

Sophie, true.

Jamie, I was having withdrawal symptoms. :) Only kidding.

Danette, the only way I could force myself off the internet would be to take a baseball bat to this computer and to my work computer. I'm a hopeless case. :)

Natalie, it's a secret that only a few know and that is never dispensed to celebrities.

KC, I think your twitter activities are very restrained. I'm aiming for your level.

Brendan, Natalie's comments always make me smile.

Danielle, or a stale muffin. :)

I'd like to see stats on how much more productive people were all over the globe during Twitter's little hiccup yesterday.

I have so had that conversation with people before...

But I'm really glad to hear that Syndey discovered her voice-- that's one of the best feelings in the world, isn't it? Congratulations to you AND her :D

Barry, all I know is my productivity went up by about 300%

Cheers Katey.

AAAH! I'm there too! I need to designate a computer with no network access as my writing node.
