WIP Wednesday - Drawing Dolls

Well, surprise surprise, I haven't done any work on 'The Horrifiques' in a fortnight. Work on two books at once - did you really fall for that old line?

Draft no. 789 of 'The Drawing of Dolls' is progressing. Storming towards the end (and feeling very happy with myself), I decided to have a quick look through the early pages, figured I'd change the odd word, delete the odd adverb. Ahem! Check out exhibit A. I am officially announcing that WIP Wednesday will involve editing Dolls for the next twenty-seven years.

Oh, surely that won't take you more than 25 years. 26 max. :p

At least you're almost at the end!

Rewrites are important, but for me, editing can be such a slippery slope. I always have to be careful to know when to stop, so I don't overdo it!

Wait a tick...so you're saying you actually have 789 drafts of that novel?

Doug, same here. I just keep cutting words till there are none left.

I knew you'd have faith in me, Kate. :)

Doug, I think I fell off the over-editing cliff about six drafts ago.

Onipar, I lied. It's 762. :D

Editing is the best part! The words are there, you just have to make them behave.

True, with one exception - bored now. :)

Being on draft 325 of a certain project myself, I wholeheartedly endorse this idea. Might be painful for you, but you'll feel better after, right?

Right!

I catch my self, once in a while, making changes to things only to realise that I put it back to the way it was in a previous version. Some guys just can't make up their minds!

Spank the words! Spank them and make them say they're sorry! ; )

I have to tell you that your titles are simply gorgeous.

"Writing is rewriting"...that lame writing 101 mantra is all I got...not very helpful, I know.

Jamie, Double ugh!

Katey, it's the stabbing my pen into the back of my hand that hurts the most.

Alan, I'm still convinced my original beginning was much better than my present, but I didn't feel it drew the reader into the story so it had to go. :(

Natalie. :)

Mercedes. :D

Adam, it will have to do. :)

Editing bores me silly! Good luck!
