Welcome to Darkside

Just finished reading the incredible 'Darkside' by Tom Becker. A children's novel aimed at the MG (8-12 age) market. If you're a fan of horror then I highly recommend it. So far it's the best book I've read all year - okay it's only February and we've still a way to go, but it's going to take something to beat this debut novel. Creepy, frightening and with an eclectic cast of characters including the wereman Carnegie, the strange & almost intoxicating Marianne, and the vamphiric Vendetta.

Here's the blurb:

Jonathan's home has been attacked. His dad is in an asylum. He's running for his life. And there's nowhere to hide.
He's stumbled on the city's greatest secret:
DARKSIDE
Incredibly dangerous and unimaginably exciting, Darkside is ruled by Jack the Ripper's children - a place where nightmares walk the streets.

At Tom Becker's Welcome to Darkside site you'll find info about the author and also two further books in the series. I've just started reading the second 'Lifeblood'.

Okay, I'm intrigued...

Even though I'm a bit burned out on vampires, this sounds like it might be worth a read.

Thomas, I feel I've done 'Darkside' a disservice - it is so very far from being a vampire novel. Vendetta is just a very small, though well drawn, character in a very, very dark world.

Trust me, if you decide to read it, you'll love it.

Ohhhh..thanks for profiling this one. I like dark stuff for kids, but it's a thin genre.

Hi Frightfest,

Cheers for the comments, I'll add you to my blog as well.

Over sixty published stories huh? That's really good going, I'm still chasing that first proper credit...

Still plenty of stories in the works.

See ya around the Dock!
